Ordering and Contact Information
The Violano rollscanning project is an ongoing effort whose goal is to capture in archival
form as many of the 3121 rolls manufactured for the Mills Novelty Company Violano
Virtuoso as possible before the rolls disintegrate due to their age and use.  Scanned files
are available free of any charges for roll recutting efforts.  For those with MIDI controlled
Violanos, such as the highly reliable and well-supported unit sold by the new
Mills Novelty
Company, files are available for their machines at a nominal fee per song to help offset the
steep costs in time and dollars expended on this project.  Collectors who make rolls
available to the project are entitled to as many files for their own use as they contribute to
the database at no charge.  Because each installation of the currently available MIDI
interface for the Violano is uniquely encoded, custom encoding is required.  Primarily for
this reason, the cost of files is on a sliding scale depending on the number purchased.
Subscription rates are available for those who would like to keep their library of songs
up-to-date with the rollscanning project.
All files work with early style machines since damper cancel signals have been added
where needed to make very late style files work.  Some late style machines may have piano
volume problems for files made from rolls prior to number 1750.  Tremelo is not an issue
since current MIDI interfaces lock this feature on at all times.
